“Mamaloshen” is a Yiddish term that refers to the Yiddish language itself. It is often used to affectionately describe Yiddish as the mother tongue or ancestral language of Ashkenazi Jews. The word is derived from the Yiddish words “mame,” meaning mother, and “loshn,” meaning language or tongue. Therefore, “Mamaloshen” translates to “mother tongue” or “mother language” in English.
For those who are new to Friday Films I use my private website www.live.org.au for information that would clutter emails I send class members. I like to keep emails brief.
