Hi subscribers to LIVE postings.
The email below from http://www.caha.org.au/about asks climate activists to send an email to the Senior Labor Shadow Ministers who are meeting this weekend.
It asks that you send one email to them imploring them to finally act on climate change.
After the federal election In 2019 hopefully they will be able to actually do something.
|Dear David —
This Friday and Saturday (14-15 December), the Australian Labor Party will be holding their national conference in Adelaide to finalise their policy platform in the lead up to the federal election.
As you may know, the ALP has committed to implement a National Plan on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia in government, based on the Framework the Climate and Health Alliance and Our Climate Our Health supporting organisations have developed.
See here for the announcement by Shadow Ministers Mark Butler and Catherine King: https://www.youtube.com/
We’re looking for your help to encourage all the ALP Leadership and Shadow Cabinet to make this a top priority!
Many positive benefits for health and well-being are available – if a comprehensive policy suite, like our world-leading Framework for a National Strategy, is implemented.
As we know, climate policy has been a fraught issue in our federal parliament.
That’s why we need you to take action now to email the ALP leadership and Shadow Cabinet ahead of this week’s meeting to let them know the Australian community is behind strong climate policy that addresses the twin challenges of climate change and health simultaneously.
Please email the ALP leadership and Shadow Cabinet now to share your concerns about climate change and health and urge them to make a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia a top priority in their National Policy Platform.
We are at a critical juncture in our campaign for a comprehensive climate and health policy suite – that will reduce carbon emissions, improve health and well-being and help stabilise our changing climate.
We don’t have much time. Please act now to secure a good outcome for climate and health in Australia.
Please use the link below to email ALP leaders Bill Shorten and Tanya Plibersek and the Shadow Cabinet to let them know you support the policy.

Subject: Please make a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being a top priority in your National Policy Platform!
Dear ALP Leaders and Shadow Cabinet,
I write to you out of concern for the health and well-being of the Australian community in relation to climate change.
We are already experiencing significant impacts from climate change in Australia and this is adversely affecting the health of the community and impacting on the health care system.
We know that current Australian and international carbon reduction commitments are inadequate to limit global warming to a safe level.
Action to urgently reduce the production of greenhouse gases and shift to clean renewable low emissions energy sources is needed.
We should be redirecting existing subsidies from fossil fuels to clean, safe, renewable energy resources and technologies.
The protection of the health and wellbeing of the community must be paramount.
The Paris Agreement obliges the Australian Government to consider its citizen’s ‘right to health’ in its national climate change response.
A National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being is needed. Health groups from across Australia have developed a Framework for a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia – available here: http://www.
I call on you to commit to developing and implementing this Strategy as a top priority in the next Parliament. This will be a core issue for me when it comes to voting in the next federal election.
I ask that you personally champion the development of this Strategy and ensure that Labor makes it a top policy priority in its National Policy Platform.
I would be grateful if you could advise what steps you take to address the above. Yours sincerely,
Our Climate, Our Health
