Gina World

Who’s counting how many times commentators, with little or no analysis, have proclaimed: “Fairfax has lost its way!” Why, for not yet treating readers entirely like shoppers?

We can see why this is a problem for Gina. If Australians care about things other than money they won’t be easily convinced that the destruction of their environment is worth the few cents that will trickle down to them after billionaire miners have filled their coffers. Given that Gina is already earning around $600 per second, a rational person could be forgiven for concluding that this trickle down solution to our economic woes is lunatic reasoning.

The motives for Gina’s raid on Fairfax would be obvious enough even if we didn’t have this arrogant footage of climate denier Lord Monckton laying out the plan to kill what remains of Australia’s progressive mainstream media.

Whether Gina controls Fairfax or kills it, she wins. Either way, with her wealth estimated at around $30 billion, the cost will be small change. The question is, what is the best thing to do about this threat to our democracy, farmland, fresh water supplies and precious places?

You can start by signing Philip Sutton’s petition calling for legislation to ensure editorial independence of media organisations.

Concerned that a petition won’t help much? We agree! So please join us on Thursday at the No New Coal Rally!, 12.30pm, 28 June on the steps of Victoria’s Parliament House to help put a stop to these nasty, greedy miners!

We would love to have your comment.

Please pass this email onto others.

What about writing to or telephoning or better still visiting your local MP using the words in Philip’s petition? Apparently that does make an impact. Note web link below.

Please legislate urgently to require that the Board members and managements of large media organisations that provide services in Australia be required to guarantee editorial independence. A model for the requirements of this legislation would be the Fairfax Charter of Editorial Independence.

Tell Gina to stop thinking of only money and greed and remember our country, its environment and the people are more important. Leave some minerals for future generations and allow intelligent products and services to keep our country free, safe and happy. We are not happy Gina!
